Pioneer 105 MW Amin PV plant, in which Enertis acted as Owner’s Engineer, commenced commercial operations

• Enertis has conducted the Owner’s Engineer, monitoring key aspects of the project, from the design phase to the construction activities.
• The solar plant, located in the Sultanate of Oman, can power 15,000 homes and contributes to reduce annual CO₂ emissions by over 225,000 tonnes, the equivalent of taking 23,000 cars off the road.
• So far, the project is one of the biggest solar parks in the Middle East to use bifacial photovoltaic modules.

The 105 MW Amin photovoltaic (PV) solar plant, located in the Sultanate of Oman, for which Enertis, a global engineering consultancy specialized in providing engineering, technical advisory and quality assurance services for renewable energy projects, has participated as the Owner’s Engineer, has commenced commercial operations three months ahead of schedule.

The solar plant, which covers a 4km² area in the Sultanate approximately 210 km North East of Thumrait, can power 15,000 homes and contributes to reduce annual CO₂ emissions by over 225,000 tonnes, the equivalent of taking 23,000 cars off the road.

The project is so far one of the biggest solar parks in the Middle East to use bifacial photovoltaic modules, which can withstand the desert temperature fluctuations, and, with the signing of a 23-year power purchase agreement (PPA), it is one of the world’s first utility-scale PV project to have an oil and gas company, Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO), as the sole wholesale buyer of energy.

The solar plant, tendered by Petroleum Development Oman in early 2018, was built by a consortium led by the Japanese Marubeni conglomerate and was built and commissioned in record time, just under 12 months after signing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract.

Enertis, which has been involved since the design phase of the project, has carried out Final Acceptance Test (FAT) related services during production of bifacial PV modules in China, as first-class factory inspection and testing company in Asia, leading and monitoring every technical-related aspect, with a special focus on the approval of the detail design for the project. Also, Enertis has deployed an experienced on-site team to supervise the construction activities, ensure the compliance of the contractual obligations and verify the quality of the works.
