  • Enertis advises White River Renewables on the purchase/sale of two Jinko Solar photovoltaic plants in Mexico

    Enertis has prepared the technical Due Diligence for the acquisition of both projects located in Jalisco and Yucatán, totaling 155 MWp. The plants have been acquired by White River Renewables, a joint venture set up by Riverstone and White Summit Capital   Enertis, a leading global consulting and engineering company in the renewable energy sector and specialising in solar photovoltaic technology, served as technical advisor to White River Renewables in the acquisition of the two solar photovoltaic plants in Mexico, sponsored by Jinko Solar. Enertis prepared the technical Due Diligence for the acquisition of both plants, totaling 155 MWp. Las Viborillas, a 130 MWp PV plant, is located in Jalisco, while San Ignacio, a 25 MWp PV plant, is located in Yucatán. The plants have been acquired by White River Renewables, a joint venture focused on renewable energy projects, set up by Riverstone, a private investment firm operating in the energy and power sector, and White Summit Capital ("WSC"), a Switzerland-based firm specialising in infrastructure investments, renewable energies, and asset management. Both plants are currently fully operational and have achieved COD under their PPAs in September 2018, in the case of the Viborillas plant, and in May 2019, in the case of the San Ignacio plant. Enertis has had permanent offices in Mexico since 2012. Along with more than 21,000 MW experience in different phases of solar photovoltaic projects.

    Enertis, a specialist in the provision of consulting, engineering and quality control assurances in renewable energy projects on a global scale, has once again been chosen by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a global leader in the development of renewable energy projects, as its adviser and technical inspector in the photovoltaic Potrero Solar project in Jalisco, Mexico. The power plant, one of the largest in the country and one of the most ambitious projects in bifacial technology on an international scale, is currently in development and it is expected that construction work will finalise in 2020. The project shall reach 296 MWp and shall include over 800,000 installed modules, with an annual production estimated at 700,000 MWh, avoiding approximately 345,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, providing energy to over 350,000 homes. Of the work that Enertis is undertaking for FRV, at three production centres in China, it is worth noting the technical advisory activity (certifications, materials, procedures, etc.), the inspection and review of the production process and the verification of the completion and quality of the bifacial devices, which will act as energy generators at the plant. According to Vicente Parra, Director of Quality and Technology at Enertis, “the production and verification of the performance of the bifacial solar modules requires a high level of knowledge and understanding as well as being up to date with this technology, ever more present in the market.     Enertis, a global engineering consultancy specialized in providing engineering, technical advisory, and quality assurance services, has been appointed the Owner Engineer for the 100MW Amin photovoltaic (PV) solar plant by Amin Renewable Energy Company SAOC. The power plant is located in the Sultanate of Oman, approximately 210 km North East of Thumrait. The Amin solar project has been sponsored by the Japanese-Omani consortium formed by Marubeni Corporation, Oman Gas Company S.A.O.C. and Bahwan Renewable Energy Company LLC after being awarded the contract by the off-taker Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO). The solar project, which has a 23-year power purchase agreement (PPA), will supply power for PDO’s interior operations and is one of the world’s first utility-scale PV project to have an oil and gas company as the sole wholesale buyer of energy. Enertis has been involved since the design phase of the project and is interfacing the relationship with the EPC contractor on behalf of Amin Renewable Energy Company. Specifically, Enertis is leading and monitoring every technical-related aspect, especially focusing on the approval of the detail design for the project. Enertis has also deployed an experienced on-site team to supervise the construction activities, ensure the compliance of the contractual obligations and verify the quality of the works.     Enertis, a specialist in the provision of consulting, engineering and quality control assurance in renewable energy projects on a global scale, has completed, in collaboration with the Instituto de Energía Solar (IES, the Institute for Solar Energy) and the Unión Española Fotovoltaica (UNEF, the Spanish Photovoltaic Union), a program for technical training for the employees of Societé Tunisienne de I’Electricité du Gaz (STEG). Encompassed within a framework of development and international cooperation, the project caters directly to the need to introduce a sustainable energy environment in the African country. The training, which has taken place over the course of 10 weeks, had as its aim to provide basic skills to engineers and technicians at STEG in the solar photovoltaic field, in order to develop future projects in Tunisia. The collaboration between Enertis, IES and UNEF has led to a full program with experts from the photovoltaic sector, who have taught the participants about the development, design, construction, launch, use and maintenance of photovoltaic plants. In addition, Enertis provided a training photovoltaic system of 2,0kWn for the technicians and engineers from STEG to learn and train on. This testing ground has been installed at the site of STEG in Tunisia and its installation was accompanied by specific and practical training regarding its use. The Monclova, Pedroso and Peñaflor projects will have a total capacity of 112 MWp and have required financing debt of €59 million. Solarpack was awarded with a total capacity of 100 MWp in the auction of new renewable energy facilities in the summer of 2017.   • Enertis provides Independent Engineering services during the financing of the “Los Llanos Solar Forests 1 and 2” in Colombia

    Enertis, a specialist in the provision of consulting, engineering and quality control assurance in renewable energy projects on a global scale, is working on the review of the Los Llanos Solar Forests 1 and 2” in Colombia. Both plants, located in the Colombian municipality of Puerto Gaitán, are the first Project Finance approved in the country for Non-Conventional Renewable Energy projects (NCRE). The sponsor, Trina Solar and the financing party, the National Development Financing Entity (Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional), have trusted Enertis to review, evaluate and report on any technical, engineering and operational risks associated with both projects and their possible economic impact on “Los Llanos”, in accordance with international practice and standards. Recently, a second senior loan was approved of 24 billion Colombian pesos (7 million US dollars), which will finance the construction of the solar park “Bosques de los Llanos 2”; a project that is preceded by the approval at the end of May of another loan of the same value for the project “Bosques Solares Los Llanos 1”. The plants shall have a power generation capability of 27.2 MWp each, will be connected to the same substation and will have the same network operator. The sponsor of both projects is the Chinese company Trina Solar Energy España, through its branch Changzhou Trina Solar Energy, the second largest company in the world for the production of solar panels. The approval of the solar park “Bosque de los Llanos 1”, was the first project of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) financed with Project Finance for the country, meaning the financing is made against the project cashflows and not against the balances of the company that executes it. Now, its sister plant “Los Llanos 2”, becomes the second NCRE project financed in this way. Enertis has been working in Colombia since 2016, providing engineering design services or Technical Due Diligence. Up until now, the company has participated in over 1.3GW of projects in the country, having reviewed over 30 plants as an independent engineer in acquisition processes, as well as participating in the first financings of NCRE in Colombia using Project Finance. In Colombia, Enertis has also elaborated engineering designs (conceptual, basic and detailed) for over 350MW worth of projects. Additionally, it has provided services for Property Engineering (Supervision) through the review of engineering designs of construction detail and supervising the building and on-site launch of some of the first utility-scale projects in operation in the country (Yumbo Solar and Bolívar). The Regional Manager for Mexico, Central America and Colombia at Enertis, Alvaro Velasco, points out that the Latinamerican country “has very good growth prospects”, and celebrated the situation of the company having “seen significant interest on the part of local actors and international clients, which is turning into a large volume of very interesting development projects which already surpass 8 GW”.

In its role as independent engineer Enertis has supported Cubico concerning the acquisition and financing of the portfolio from Cypress Creek Renewables. The portfolio, in final development stage, comprises five large scale solar projects, ranging from 100 MW to 160 MW. The works performed by Enertis’ team have included so far a full technical due diligence scope and will now continue throughout the construction and commissioning phases of the projects.     Enertis, a global consulting and engineering firm specialised in providing technical advisory, engineering, and quality assurance services in the international renewable energy sector, has been approved by Acciona Energía as principal supplier for quality assurance and quality control services for solar modules, a result of the close and successful collaboration amongst both companies in recent years. Against this background, worth highlighting are the works that Enertis is currently performing for the ‘Puerto Libertad’ project of 404 MWp in Mexico, the three identical photovoltaics plants of the Egyptian solar PV complex ‘Benban’ that accumulate to a total of some 186 MWp, and another three plants of the ‘Dymerka Solar’ complex of 57.2 MWp in Ukraine. The currently ongoing quality control works apply to a total of approximately 2,000,000 multicrystalline silicon PV modules of two tier-1 manufacturers. The PV devices are produced at more than five manufacturing centres in China, where Enertis is present with its team of auditors and laboratory engineers, contributing with its expertise and specialised know-how. These modules are going to be installed, on the one hand, at the ‘Puerto Libertad’ project in Mexico, the biggest in the country, where Acciona Energía has started the construction at the beginning of the year, together with its partner Tuto Energy. Part of the generated electricity will be sold to the Federal Electricity Commission CFE, according to the allocation achieved in the second long-term auction, another part will be sold through a power purchase agreement (PPA) to an industrial off-taker and a third part to the market. The project’s commercial operation commencement is expected for the first quarter of 2019. On the other hand, the second project for which Enertis is providing its modules’ quality control works, are the three photovoltaics plants situated in the ‘Benban’ solar complex in Egypt, that will sell the generated electricity under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to the public utility EETC. Those plants, co-owned by 50% by Acciona Energía and the Saudi Swicorp, are expected to start their commercial operation in the first quarter of 2019. Moreover, the third project for which those works are currently ongoing are three solar photovoltaic plants in Ukraine – ‘Dymerka II, III and IV’ –, fully owned by Acciona Energía, that are currently under construction and expected to start their commercial operation during the second quarter of 2019. Enertis has been involved from the very beginning of the projects, rendering support for the definition of the technical specifications of the module supply agreements, validating new module technologies and the factories to be eventually used for the supplies. Concerning the manufacturing process itself, it is worth mentioning that Enertis in its role as independent entity is every day with its local inspectors present at the manufacturing centres to assure the correct fulfilment of the agreed requirements and according to international quality standards, key in a context of tighter and tighter margins, to mitigate risks. “We are proud to have the chance to keep working with Acciona Energía and contribute with our technical experience to their projects all over the world”, says Dr Vicente Parra, Head of Quality Innovation and Technology at Enertis.

  • Enertis accompanies the construction of Celsia’s second photovoltaic plant in Colombia

    Enertis has participated in more than 20 projects in several development and construction stages in Colombia, by providing its technical due diligence or engineering services to developers. The cumulative expertise in the country already exceeds 600 MW. Enertis strengthens its position in the Colombian market with the supervision of the construction of Celsia’s second photovoltaic plant of 8.06 MW in Bolivar. Celsia, the energy division of Grupo Argos, already allocated Enertis the supervision of the construction of the solar plant  ‘Yumbo solar’, the first utility-scale solar PV facility in the country that has been connected to the grid, with more than 3,500 modules and a total energy production enough to supply 8,000 households.  After this collaboration, Enertis has been chosen again as Owner’s Engineer for the new plant that will be constructed in the department of Bolivar. The Bolivar solar plant is the second utility-scale project to be constructed by Celsia in the country and is part of its growth plan concerning the non-conventional renewable energy sector in Colombia. Amongst the tasks to be performed by Enertis will be a review of the detailed engineering , the verification of material and stipulated equipment supplies for the plant as well as the supervision of electric, civil and health and security aspects during the construction and commissioning of the plant. Those activities are going to be carried out by a team of experts with different technical backgrounds who will take care of back office as well as on-site works, the latter in direct collaboration with personnel of Celsia with the final aim to share knowledge. This project contributes to the growth and consolidation of Enertis in Colombia, after more than two years working in the country and opening a permanent office in 2017. So far, the team of Enertis in Colombia has participated in more than 20 different projects in several development and construction stages, such as technical due diligence processes or engineering services to developers in different areas throughout the country.  The expertise in Colombia already exceeds an accumulated power of 600 MW. In the last years Colombia has taken several measures to integrate non-conventional renewable energy sources in the national energy mix. After the introduction in 2014 of the law 1715, which regulates some incentives for those projects, the national Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Gas (Creg) has approved the resolution 030 that allows small energy producers to generate energy for self-consumption purposes and sell their energy surplus. Furthermore, the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy introduced in March 2018 the decree 570 that sets the basis for a regulatory framework for the publication of a mechanism for long term non-renewable energy contracting. It is expected that this decree will turn out into an imminent publication of the rules for the announcement of a large-scale auction. This auction is expected to allocate between 1 GW and 1.5 GW of power. About 5 GW of solar and wind projects are currently registered by the national Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME)  as being under development in Colombia.
