  • Enertis has supervised both the construction and the grid connection phases, including the compliance with the detailed engineering and the construction quality plan and deadlines, as well as the overseeing and coordination of the contractors and equipment providers of AES Gener.
  • The Andes Solar 2A solar PV plant, located at 2,700 m in the Andes, is one of the first utility-scale projects in Chile to use bifacial photovoltaic technology.
  • Enertis has been operating in South America since 2012, with a total of 18 GW of experience in providing consultancy, engineering and quality control services in different phases of solar PV projects.

Enertis, a worldwide leading consulting and engineering company in the renewable energy sector, has provided Owner’s Engineering services to AES Gener in the construction and grid connection of the Andes Solar 2A solar PV plant in Chile. Specifically, Enertis has provided technical supervision to ensure compliance with the detailed engineering and the construction quality plan and deadlines, as well as overseeing and coordinating the contractors and equipment providers of AES Gener.

This utility-scale solar PV plant is one of the first projects in Chile to use bifacial PV technology. It has a nominal capacity of 80 MW. Located in the Antofagasta region, at an altitude of 2,700 meters in the Andes mountains, the project lies in a harsh desert environment where the temperature variations between night and day reach 20°C (68 °F).

The characteristics of the peculiar environment in which the project is located, especially its high direct solar radiation and low temperatures, together with the bifacial solar photovoltaic modules, that use both direct radiation on the front and indirect light on the back to generate electricity, create the perfect conditions for a more efficient energy generation.

As Aitor Ilundain, Country Manager of Enertis Chile and responsible for Enertis business in South America, claimed: “The project is a success despite the difficulties caused by the peculiar environment in which it is located. We are very proud of having supported AES Gener with our knowledge and expertise. We will continue with our commitment to offer the best high-quality services in order to contribute to the transformation of the energy sector and reach a decarbonized economy’.
